What a great time celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the first African American undergraduate students at Homecoming this year. BEST Austin and all the volunteers did a great job hosting. A special thanks to The Office of the President and the Eta Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi for their support of the weekend.
The Precursors and the Texas Exes Black Alumni Network also hosted events during Homecoming as we celebrate together. Find your way to get involved in supporting our University and making our presence known as we stand on the rich legacy of those first undergraduate students.
Make plans now to join BEST Dallas for Red River Weekend on October 7-9, 2016.
The weekend is highlighted by the Annual Black Alumni Watch Party hosted by BEST and OU Black Alumni Society (OU BAS).

The John Saunders Chase Legacy Scholarship was established by the Texas Exes Black Alumni Network in September 2012 to honor John Saunders Chase, who passed away on March 9, 2012. The hope is to present the endowed scholarship to the University and the family during the Legacy Celebration of Black Alumni Homecoming Weekend. Our goal is to find at least five hundred African American alumni to donate a minimum of $100.
As with the Duren Scholarship, we will honor those who give $250 or more with a special gift. Please help us honor the memory of another of our trailblazers and plan now to join us as we add John Saunders Chase’s portrait to the honorees in the Alumni Center’s Legends Room. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated! To make a donation by check for this endowment, please make the check out to “Texas Exes” and write “John Chase Scholarship” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 7278 Austin, TX 78713. Donations can also be made online at https://www.texasexes.org/scholarshipdonation and select the “John Saunders Chase Legacy Scholarship” from the scholarship lists.
