NAACP Legal Defense Fund

From the NAACP Legal Defense Fund:

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF), which has represented BEST (as well as the BSA) in the Fisher v. University of Texas case for several years is asking for your help. LDF has drafted amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” briefs on BEST’s behalf both at the U.S. Supreme Court and at the Court of Appeals in Texas. As you may know, the Fisher has been granted review by the Supreme Court again, and we anticipate filing another brief on BEST’s behalf. In our brief last time, we were able to incorporate perspectives from BEST students so that the Court may be aware not only of the legal arguments in and implications of the case, but also the impact on real UT students, particularly black students and especially members of BEST and BSA.

To that end, we have provided a questionnaire for BEST members, so that we can gather stories from you, our clients, and so that we and the Supreme Court can hear from you and about your essential perspectives. We have also provided background materials and FAQs, so that you can become better acquainted withFisher v. UT-Austin, as well as with LDF and BEST’s relationship thus far.

Please fill out and return the questionnaire to lzaragoza@naacpldf.org by end of Friday, October 30.  If you would like to stay involved and would like us to be in touch with you, please feel free to include your contact information in the questionnaire provided.

We appreciate your input as UT alums, members of BEST, and our clients, and we look forward to being in touch with you in the coming weeks.
